One Day Exhibition In Blackpool - Monday 18th March!

 'Taster' exhibition of Female Poets of the First World War will be held at the Parks Art Deco Cafe in Blackpool's Stanley Park on Monday, 18th March 2013 from 12 noon until 4 pm.

Included will be biographical details and examples of poems from:

Margaret Rowntree from Fleetwood
May Sinclair who was born on The Wirral
Mary Webb
Cicely Fox Smith
plus some examples of female poets from other countries
and a few more surprises. . .

The usual self-service snacks, meals and drinks will be available from the Parks Art Deco Cafe.

My grateful thanks to Paul for his patience and perseverance - this project grows by the day.

I should also like to thank my dear friend Kathleen Holyhead very much indeed.  Kathleen put into my hands on Tuesday a little notebook of poetry handwritten by her Grandmother who, we think, was born in around 1879.   The poems are amazing and I am now busy trying to piece together the torn and yellowing pages to find as many complete poems as possible.   Several of them are actually about WW1.   Thank you so much Kathleen.

I am very grateful indeed for all the help and encouragement I am receiving from all over the world.  My project seems to be generating renewed interest in the subject.

Mike Lyons - who has translated Austrian Poet Ingeborg Bachmann's poems.  I am indebted to Mike for a copy of his book (with Patrick Drysdale) - "Enigma" Selected Poems", published by Ariadne Press, Riverside, California, 2011.   Ingeborg was born in 1926 but her poems reflect the turmoil of the aftermath of the First World War as the world slid towards the Second.

I am particularly indebted to Stephen Cribari, a poet who teaches law at the University of Minnesota in America and the American Notre Dame Law School in London (a fantastic poet by the way). Stephen has been extremely helpful and supportive from the outset and has made many very helpful suggestions.   It was following advice from Stephen that I decided to start a new section entitled "Inspirational Women of World War One" - because there are many such who did not write poetry.

Suzanne Raitt, Professor of English at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, USA, who wrote a biography about English poet and author May Sinclair, who was one of the first poets I researched.
