Thank you to everyone who came along on Monday afternoon to attend the Taster Exhibition of Female War Poets and Inspirational Women.
Monday's Exhibition featured the following poets: Margaret Rowntree (from Fleetwood), May Sinclair, Mary Webb, Lucie Delarue-Mardrus, Elsa Lasker-Schuler, Anna Akmatova, Florbela Espanca, Lena Guilbert Ford, Gabriela Mistral, Jean Blewett, Moina Belle Michael, Ella Wheeler Wilcox, Bing Xin and Akiko Yosano.
Inspirational Women: Mary Riter Hamilton (artist), Inez Milholland (journalist), Gertrude Bell (writer), Flora Sandes (soldier), Ecaterina Teodoroiu (soldier) and Milunka Savic (soldier).
The Art Deco Café in Stanley Park Blackpool is a delightful setting for any event but was particularly suitable for this exhibition.
April Moon, the Acoustic Duo from Canada currently in Southport to write and record songs, entertained with some of their songs as well as covers. They also sang one of Lucy and Paul's songs 'War Graves' and Jaime read out two poems by Ella Wheeler Wilcox and one by Mona Belle Michael.
Feedback from the Exhibition was very positive and I promised to let everyone know when I complete the project and publish the book and CD.
In the meantime I shall continue my research to find as many poets from as many countries as possible.
The next scheduled exhibition will be at the Ace Centre in Nelson, East Lancashire in August 2013. Full details will be published shortly.
